TOCFL (Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language)

The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) is the only Mandarin language test officially recognised in Taiwan.

Passing a TOCFL exam at a Band B or higher is a mandatory requirement for entry to Mandarin-taught programmes covered by the Taiwan Scholarship.

Recipients of the 9-month Huayu Enrichment Scholarship are requested to submit a certificate or transcripts of a TOCFL Band B (or higher) exam.

Test-takers can choose to undertake the test in either simplified or traditional characters.

2025 TOCFL Test information:

  • When: Sunday March 22nd 2025
  • From 2 pm-4 pm.
  • Venue: Brunei Gallery, School of Asian and African Studies (SOAS University of London) 10 Thornhaugh St, London WC1H 0XG

Registration and information:

  1. Registration period: Until 21st February 2025

Procedure:

  1. Download and fill in the attached TOCFL-Application-Form-2025
  2. Transfer the registration fees of £25 (TOCFL) or £15 (TOCFL Novice) to the account of the Education Division, Taipei Representative Office in the UK:

  • Account Holder: Kai Tsou
  • Reference: “Your name TOCFL” eg “Anna Smith TOCFL”

3. Send the registration form and the proof of payment (digital document or scan) to [email protected].

Notes:

Participants will receive a confirmation of their registration.

The registration fee will not be returned and postponement of participation is not possible.
